Troubleshooting: missed shots

Beitrag von [MEYTON] Forum » Do 19. Mai 2016, 15:50

Symptoms

The Electronic Scoring Target misses shots, shots and hits are not registered.

Troubleshooting

Verify the following points:

Is the hit compliant with the rules?

Check

  • Is the hit within the shooting time?
  • Is the hit on the target?
  • Was the stand in the right mode (sample or rating) during the shot was given?
  • Was the stand in the maintenance mode during the shot was given?
  • Was the Electronic Scoring Target calibrating during the shot was given?
  • Was the right discipline adjusted during the shot was given?
  • Is the caliber the right caliber for the chosen discipline?
  • Is there a fresh impact outside of the target?
NO: The hit is not compliant with the rules

Wait if there are missed shots during the next 100 shots.

YES: The hit is compliant with the rules

Continue troubleshooting.

Is the Electronic Scoring Target clean?

Background: Meyton ESTs use light barriers to register hits. The light barriers have to be free of obstacles.

Verify: is the Electronic Scoring Target free from dust, bullet fragments, scraps of paper and back-splash from the bullet catcher? Use the manual „Wie reinige ich den Messrahmen“.

NO: The Electronic Scoring Target is not clean

Clean the EST.

YES: The Electronic Scoring Target is clean

Continue troubleshooting.

Does the paper target block a light barrier?

Background: Meyton ESTs use light barriers to register hits. The edges of the paper target can become frayed or creased and block a light barrier. Targets made from plastic can soften under the influence of heat and become 'bulgy'. The center of such a bulgy target may block the light barriers.

Does the target block a light barrier? Are the edges of the target creased?

YES: The paper/plastic target is blocking a light barrier.

Attach the target correctly. Flatten the target. Fold back the edge. Replace the plastic target.

NO: The paper/plastic target is not blocking any light barriers

Continue troubleshooting.

Is the paper target attached in front of the light barriers?

Applicability: Verify for all shooting lanes, except 50m lanes for small-bore with plastic targets. For these lanes the plastic target can be attached in front of the light-barriers by default.

Background: The bullet somtimes 'punches' a piece from the paper/plastic target. If this piece and the bullet are registered simultaneously the Electronic Scoring Target may register the shot as invalid.

YES: The paper target is attached in front of the light barriers

Attach the paper target behind the light barriers as seen from the shooter's point of view.

NO: the paper target is attached behind the light barriers

Continue troubleshooting.

Does the error disappear after switching off and on the devices?

Check if switching off and on the devices rectifies the error.

Perform the following actions:
  • Switch off all devices, then switch on all devices again
  • Switch off all devices, then switch on all devices again in a different order
  • Switch off all devices, then switch on all devices again while waiting 1 Minute between devices
  • Switch off all devices, then switch on all devices again in a different order while waiting 1 Minute between devices
Include all devices: Control-PCs, Electronic Scoring Targets, Display Controller, Gateways und workstations as well as all devices in the network, such as switches and routers.

YES: the error disappears after switching off and on the devices

Wait if the error appears again.

NO: the error does not disappear after switching off and on the devices

Continue troubleshooting.

Are all light-barriers bright?

Background: The light-barriers are powered by small LEDs. These LEDs can become covered or fail. A calibration of the Electronic Scoring Target shows these LEDs as dark or very dark.

Execute an Electronic Scoring Target test and an Electronic Scoring Target calibration.

NO: Some light-barriers are dark

Clean the EST. Use the manual „Wie reinige ich den Messrahmen“.

Repeat the Electronic Scoring Target test.

Contact Meyton if the same light-barriers remain dark.

YES: All light-barriers are bright

Continue troubleshooting.

Is the Electronic Scoring Target connected?

Background: Meyton ESTs are small computer. Power supply and network connection ensure that the Electronic Scoring Target can register hits and communicate them to other devices in the network.

Verify:

  • Are there any damaged cables?
  • Are there any loose plugs?
  • Is the Electronic Scoring Target visible in the ShootmasterII software?
NO: the Electronic Scoring Target is not connected

Establish a connection. Verify power supply and network connection.

YES: the Electronic Scoring Target is connected

Continue troubleshooting.

Is the Electronic Scoring Target positioned perpendicularly to the direction of shooting?

Background: Meyton ESTs test how 'circular' a hit is. Shooting at the target from an oblique angle turns the intersection between the path of bullet and the plane of the light-barriers into an ellipse. This ellipse may not be registered as a hit.

Verify: Is the Electronic Scoring Target positioned perpendicularly to the direction of shooting?

NO: the Electronic Scoring Target is not positioned perpendicularly to the direction of shooting

Position the Electronic Scoring Target perpendicularly to the direction of shooting:

  • Position the Electronic Scoring Target exactly in front of the firing position
  • Position the Electronic Scoring Target level
  • Position the Electronic Scoring Target in such a way that is not tilted forward - towards the shooter. Meyton suggests a tilt of 0° up to a maximum of 3° backwards
YES: the Electronic Scoring Target is positioned perpendicularly to the direction of shooting

Continue troubleshooting.

Are the versions of the software on the Meyton devices on your shooting range up-to-date?

Make sure all Meyton devices have the most up-to-date version. Use the manual „Welche Version habe ich“ from the Meyton homepage.

NO: the versions of the software on the Meyton devices are not up-to-date

Execute an update. Use your customer login.

YES: the versions of the software on the Meyton devices are up-to-date

Continue troubleshooting.

Did the Electronic Scoring Target get cold and/or damp?

Background: When the ESTs gets cold, condensation may accumulate on the electronics. Condensation leads to short-circuits and oxidation. Damaged electronics may lead to errors, such as missed shots and connection problems.

Condensation may appear if the Electronic Scoring Target is transported from a cold to a warm environment. Let the Electronic Scoring Target warm up slowly to avoid condensation.

Always leave the power supply connected when the Electronic Scoring Target is outside or in a cold environment. The residual heat of the electronics prevents condensation.

YES: The Electronic Scoring Target did get cold and/or damp

Leave the power supply switched on for at least 2 days. Repeat the verification.

NO: the Electronic Scoring Target is dry

Continue troubleshooting.

Was there an over-voltage on your shooting range?

Background: over-voltage damages electronics. The following events may induce an over-voltage:

  • lightning
  • disturbances of the power supply
  • sudden losses of power supply
  • electrostatic discharge
Verify if such an event took place.

YES: there was an over-voltage on your shooting range

Verify all devices. Contact Meyton.

NO: there was no over-voltage

Continue troubleshooting.
